"It was so green here. It was very beautiful. Children studied here. We had three schools, a technical school, and a music school. Now we have nothing left. Children have lost their childhood, their memories, everything," Svitlana Hontar, a resident of the urban-type settlement of Borodianka, recalls with tears.

Russian troops entered Borodyanka on the first day of the invasion, February 24, 2022. This town is located 35 kilometers northwest of Kyiv.

Russian troops used cluster munitions and missiles from the Tornado and Uragan systems to destroy houses, which they fired at night when the maximum number of people were in their homes. As a result of the air strikes, residents were buried alive.

Most of the buildings in the town were destroyed, including almost the entire main street. Under the rubble of the destroyed buildings, 41 people were found dead. In total, Russians killed 115 civilians in Borodyanka. More than 300 bodies were found in graves made by locals during the occupation.

According to the study of the KSE Institute:

• 1534 buildings were destroyed and damaged, mostly, residential buildings;
• 404 private and 55 apartment buildings, 8 townhouses, 477 outbuildings, 198 garages, and 5 greenhouses were damaged.
• The total area of these damaged buildings is 328,800 square meters;
• 176 social facilities were destroyed;
• 7 medical institutions and 10 educational institutions were damaged;
• A total of 198 buildings were damaged to varying degrees;
• Almost all key administrative infrastructure buildings were destroyed —6 out of 8 government and administrative buildings, a police station, 2 out of 4 post offices in the village, and 2 fire stations.
